Azuma Ichi means "Number one in the east". East refers to Kanto area where Tokyo is. Masayoshi is a legendary blacksmith, the only blacksmith who charged more for his chisels than Hidari Ichihiro. All are sharpened to perfection. From what I felt when sharpening they felt close to tamahagane, very easy to sharpen, a bit over tempered at the tip which is often the case with old tools.
